About this Event
Activism can take many forms, but those looking for a quieter option for participating in positive change may consider craftivism, social and political activism through craft. Join us to explore the history of craftism through projects such as the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Arpilleras of Chile, and the Clothesline Project.
Participants will also be introduced to an assortment of craftivist objects from the Special Collections held at Morris Library and then invited to contribute to a group craftivism piece with a focus on advocacy and support for survivors of gender-based violence.
Crafting materials and some technical instruction will be provided for workshop participants to decorate links for a paper chain wall hanging which will be displayed in the Morris Library.
Co-sponsored by the Center for Material Culture Studies and the Department of Women and Gender Studies.
Registration is required. You will receive an reminder email one day in advance.
