About this Event

Major intercollegiate athletics is a multi-billion-dollar industry (and potentially a significant revenue driver for a university) that has undergone significant changes over the past decade. However, the future of intercollegiate athletics is uncertain due to several issues including conference realignment, the potential employment status of student-athletes and the ability of student-athletes to financially benefit from their personal name, image and likeness.

The University of Delaware is one institution that has responded to these changes. In November 2023, UD announced it would be moving from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and will be switching conference affiliation from the Coastal Athletic Association to Conference USA as a full member.

Join Professor Timothy DeSchriver as he discusses the implications of a rapidly changing intercollegiate athletics landscape on universities across the country as well as the motivation for and potential impact of these changes on the University of Delaware.

Timothy DeSchriver is an associate professor in the Department of Hospitality and Sport Business Management, and the Area Head for the Sport Management academic program. His research focuses on sports finance and economics and marketing, specifically for professional sport and collegiate athletics.
