About this Event

Discover the life and legacy of James E. Newton, a celebrated artist, public intellectual and University of Delaware professor of African American history, in the exhibition The Artistic Legacy of James E. Newton: Heritage and Character Portraits. The exhibition provides a glimpse into the incredible career of the artist and self-proclaimed “serious doodler.”

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a selection of doodles and sketches from Newton’s personal archive, which was recently acquired by Special Collections.

Curators, former students and colleagues will be on hand as visitors interact with the art and archival material on view. A doodling station will be available for those interest in sketching in the gallery.

This event is part of the University of Delaware’s Alumni Weekend. Follow the registration prompt above to be redirected to the Alumni Weekend website.
