About this Event

In 2022, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy issued a memorandum that will make taxpayer-funded research immediately available for the public to freely access and fully use. The memo called on all federal agencies to generate policies that eliminate the current 12-month waiting period for access to the outputs of federally funded research, including articles and data. Many agencies have now released their public access plans, which must be fully implemented by the end of 2025.

How will these new requirements impact University of Delaware researchers, and how can public access help make science more transparent, inclusive and reproducible? Join an esteemed panel of speakers for a lively discussion to find out. Speakers include

  • Louis M. Barbier, associate chief scientist at NASA. Barbier received his doctorate in astrophysics, served as staff scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center for 20 years, and has held a variety of positions during his time at NASA.
  • Eric Wommack, professor of microbiology and senior associate vice president for research at UD. Wommack has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and has served in editor roles for a number of journals.
  • Anjana Bhat, associate professor of physical therapy at UD. Bhat’s lab studies motor development of children with autism spectrum disorder and how that impacts their overall social communication and cognitive development.
  • Jennifer Kubota, Senior Ford Fellow and associate professor at UD. Kubota is also the director for equity and inclusion in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the co-director of the Department of Political Science and International Relations’ Impression Formation Social Neuroscience Lab.
