About this Event

Podcast assignments are a great way to start incorporating alternative forms of assessment into a course. They allow students to demonstrate their research, writing and oral communication skills through a new medium. We know designing a new assignment can be daunting, especially when it involves unfamiliar technology, so this workshop is designed to provide faculty with everything they need to develop and implement a podcast assignment, and to become familiar with the tools their students will use to complete it.

During this half-day workshop, faculty will begin developing a podcast assignment for an upcoming course. The first part of the workshop will focus on assignment descriptions, learning outcomes, project parameters, scaffolded timelines and assessment rubrics. The second part will involve hands-on learning as faculty record and edit audio using the free software Audacity to develop a podcast. Faculty will also learn about available resources in the Student Multimedia Design Center and additional ways librarians can provide support to faculty and students.

This workshop is open to all who teach at the University. It will be led by Amanda McCollom, multimedia literacy librarian, and Jess Barth, emerging multimedia technologies librarian. Those who teach Capstone or Discovery Learning Experience (DLE) courses are encouraged to attend.

Registration is required and capped at 15 participants. Lunch will be provided. Please contact Amanda McCollom (amccoll@udel.edu) with any questions.
