SUMMARY:Basics of Geographic Information Systems
DESCRIPTION:Jumpstart your understanding of geographic information systems 
 (GIS)\, a powerful tool for mapping and analyzing spatial data. Discover 
 how GIS can support your research\, and how the ArcGIS platform—a 
 robust\, user-friendly\, web-enabled mapping tool—can help explain and 
 display your data to a wider audience.\n\nDuring this workshop\, learn the 
 essential concepts of GIS\, including layers\, imaging and the types of 
 software needed for GIS analysis. You will also be introduced to the Esri 
 product stack and its licensing—including ArcGIS Pro\, the desktop GIS 
 software\; and ArcGIS Online\, the cloud GIS solution—and explore how it 
 can support your research. \n\nThe workshop will be led by Olena Smith\, 
 lead geospatial information consultant for UD IT Research 
 Cyberinfrastructure\; Lillian Wang\, GIS specialist and cartographer for 
 the Delaware Geological Survey\; and Daniel Peart\, data services 
 librarian. It is co-sponsored by UD IT Research Cyberinfrastructure\, the 
 Delaware Geological Survey and the Graduate College.\n\nThis hybrid 
 workshop is open to UD students\, faculty and staff.\n\nRegistration is 
 required. You may choose to join us in person or via Zoom. Once 
 registered\, you will receive an email with details on how to join the 
 workshop via Zoom. The workshop will not be recorded. \n\nIf you are
