About this Event

What stories do we allow young readers to see—and which ones are taken away?

Children’s and young adult books are among the most frequently banned and challenged works, often because they tackle real-world issues such as race, gender, identity and family. Yet these books play a vital role in helping young readers understand themselves and the world around them.

Stop by our table to:

  • Explore the history of censorship in children’s and young adult literature
  • Learn why these books are challenged and what is at stake when access is denied
  • Discover the importance of diverse voices in shaping young readers’ imaginations
  • Connect to this year’s Banned Books Week theme and its call to action

Presented in partnership with the UD Department of English, this event is part of our campus-wide Banned Books Week programming, which celebrates the freedom to read and raises awareness about the dangers of censorship.

Later that day, join us for our main event of the week: the Banned Books Read-Out on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, where students, faculty, staff and the community bring banned and challenged works to life.
