About this Event

Artists’ books are a type of artistic expression that uses the form or function of a book as inspiration. The exhibition The Artist’s Book in Our Times, on view in the Special Collections Gallery through May 12, explores the many ways book artists use the medium to explore social issues, including race, gender and sexuality, politics, the climate crisis, COVID-19, and more.

Join curator Curtis Small for a tour of the exhibition, where you will learn more about artists’ books and engage with several artists’ books from our collections. The event will also include a presentation by New York-based book artist Beldan Sezen, who will discuss her work as a socially engaged creator. Sezen will also present her award-winning artist's book Spielraum, created in homage to Anton Wilhelm Amo, an 18th-century Black German philosopher. A reception will follow.

This in-person event is free and open to the public.

Registration is required.
