About this Event
We use maps to answer the age-old question, “Where am I?” But maps provide insight on a variety of other questions, too, through the use of a geographic information system (GIS), which is a powerful mapping and analysis tool for spatial or geographic data.
This semester, the University of Delaware Library will hold five GIS-related workshops—focused on PolicyMap, ArcGIS Online, Story Maps, ArcGIS for Desktop and census data—through September and October.
In this workshop, you’ll become familiar with this GIS cloud-based resource. You will also learn how ArcGIS Online makes it easier to add data to a map that can be widely shared with others.
Throughout this process, you’ll become familiar with data layers, a key GIS concept; learn how to convert addresses into geographic coordinates; and recognize how cartographic principles apply to creating maps that clearly and fairly present data.
This workshop is co-sponsored by UD Information Technologies.
UD students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend. While workshops are free of charge, registration is required as seating is limited.

All users coming to the Morris Library need to have photo identification. Those with UD ONEcards can hold this ID to the card reader at the turnstiles for easy access to the Library. If you do not have a UD ONEcard, a state-issued ID like a driver's license or a government-issued, or school-issued photo ID will be needed to enter the Morris Library.
Please call 302-831-2432 or email lib-workshops@udel.edu with questions regarding workshops.
